Emma-Jane O`Rourke
Children`s Speech and Language Therapist

I work with neurotypical and neurodivergent children from a young age, supporting the child and their family in their communication.
I support all areas of communication and interaction, including understanding of language, expressive language skills, speech sounds and fluency. I have over 30 years experience working with preschool and school-aged children with a range of diagnoses, such as Autism, ADD/ADHD, Down’s Syndrome, Specific Learning Differences, Hearing impairment, Stammering and Speech/Language delays and disorders.
I support verbal and non-verbal communication, through the use of Alternative and Augmentative communication where appropriate, with the aim of every child being able to express their thoughts, needs and ideas with autonomy.
I work through child-led, play-based therapy, providing the foundations for authentic and meaningful communication. I offer evaluation and therapy sessions in a 1:1 setting, together with parent consultation. I am also able to provide Kindergarten and School visits by arrangement.

Background
Originally from Birmingham, UK, I graduated from the University of Manchester in 1992 with a BSc(Hons) in Speech Pathology and Therapeutics. I worked in Hampshire in both community and hospital settings with adults and paediatrics, later specialising in Paediatric Special Needs in a variety of settings (Unit for Autistic students, School for Children with Physical Disabilities and Neonate Unit).
I moved to Vienna in 1999 and worked in the Learning Support Department at Vienna International School before re-locating to Australia from 2002 - 2003, where I set up the Speech and Language Therapy Service in Far East Gippsland, Victoria.
On returning to Vienna in 2003 I began my own independent practice as a Speech and Language Therapist working with English speaking students. I currently see pre-school children at “steps-THERAPIE AM MÄRZPARK” in the 15th District as well as seeing students at international kindergartens and schools in Vienna.
I am a member of Logopädie Austria and am registered as a Logopädin with the Gesundheitsberufregister (Registration Number 20-GBR-189280). I am a member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists and am registered with the Health Care Professional Council UK (Registration Number SL15855).
I am a therapist that works privately and for whom partial reimbursement for their services can be obtained from the Austrian Insurance companies.
About me
I am a mother of two teenage boys, familiar with the ups and downs of living and parenting in different countries. I enjoy spending time with family - walking, visiting museums and events in Vienna. I enjoy exercising, reading and listening to podcasts, and getting out into my small garden.
